Dear Colleagues,
This is a further reminder of the conference STATPHYS 26 to be held in
Lyon, France,
which is approaching fast. In addition to the TALKS and POSTER
sessions, to the
Boltzmann Medal ceremony, note that the conference will include a
Memorial
lecture dedicated to Leo Kadanoff given by Mitchell Feigenbaum.
LYON is known as the gastronomic capital of France, but Lyon is also a
city with
2000 years of history that you can discover as you walk through its
districts that
make up the UNESCO World Heritage Site, ranging from Roman architecture
to bold
contemporary creations such as the "Musée des Confluences". The old
city centre
known as "le Vieux Lyon" is the second most important Renaissance
district in Europe
after Venice, dating back to the 14th to 16th centuries. Descending
from the hill of Fourvière
- former Roman colony, now dominated by its imposing 19th century
Basilic - one can
discover a rich array of architectural developments. These include "La
rue Mercière",
with its 17th century buildings and the 18th to 19th century district
of the "Presqu'île"
between the Saone and Rhone rivers. The following video gives a view of
several of these locations:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BPGLiL_O7Iw [1].
Walking tours taking in these sites are included in the social program,
http://statphys26.sciencesconf.org/resource/page/id/30 [2] which also
includes several
interesting excursions outside Lyon (Chamonix Mont Blanc, Cluny
Abbey,…), plus
early morning runs and even a Wednesday afternoon football tournament!
More information on the conference including topics, invited speakers
and registration
procedure, can be found on the conference website:

We are looking forward to welcoming you in Lyon,
The Organizing Committee
PS: Please distribute this announcement to your colleagues as
appropriate. While we have
