Greetings!
I am Duarte Graça, Vice-President, Advocacy Officer & Recruitment
Manager
in the Executive Committee
<https://www.iaps.info/what-is-iaps/executive-committee-2019-2020/> of
the International
Association of Physics Students <https://www.iaps.info/> (IAPS). I am
writing to you in the interest of establishing a connection between IAPS
and the Physics students of the Universidad Nacional de la Plata.
As a global network of students running for more than three decades, we
have been adding new members to our organisation every year with the
purpose of creating opportunities for students of Physics-related
courses
to share knowledge, experiences and culture with fellow students from
many
other countries.
To that effect, one of the most important moments that IAPS has
developed
is the International Conference of Physics Students
<https://www.iaps.info/icps/what-is-icps/> (ICPS). This week-long
adventure
joins hundreds of students from around 50 countries in a different city
each year to learn Physics through lectures and visits to labs and
research
centres, contact with local culture and meeting other students, giving
them
an opportunity to show their own work with posters and student lectures.
This year, ICPS will be especially exciting, because it will be in
Puebla,
Mexico <https://scj.org.mx/icps/>, the first time it is held outside of
Europe! IAPS is in a particularly historic moment that gives us an
opportunity to start involving students from many countries that have
not
had the opportunity to participate so far, including most of Central and
South America.
Physics, like Science in general, is an international effort which
requires
cooperation between people of many different countries, cultures and
backgrounds. We believe this means it is important for those who are not
yet professionals, but are studying Physics to develop connections as
students, because this will be helpful to them as professionals in the
future and it creates an early sense of community which is very
important
in any collaborative effort, particularly one as challenging and
spectacular as Physics.
Therefore, I would like to propose an online meeting with a
representative
of your institution and a representative or group of Physics students
with
the goal of determining how they can join our network and participate in
all of our activities. Jyri Genral, President of IAPS, and Lamborghini
Sotelo, President of the ICPS 2020 Organising Committee, are also
receiving
this email and will be following this process.
Thank you very much for your attention. I hope we can cooperate and I'm
looking forward to your reply.
Best regards,
Duarte Graça
