The precise project will be developed in collaboration with these partners and is likely to be drawn from the following list of interests: nucleation of colloidal crystals; complex colloids with ultra-soft, competing or anisotropic interactions; phase transitions in 2D systems (including hexatic phases); polydisperse mixtures; colloids at interfaces; and active colloids. Simulations will likely make use of the University of Bristol BlueCrystal<https://www.acrc.bris.ac.uk/> High Performance Computer.

The position is available for up to 4 years and is available from 1 October 2018. Candidates should have completed (or be about to complete) a doctorate in Physics, Chemistry, Applied Mathematics or related fields and be fluent in spoken and written English. A strong background in statistical mechanics, computer simulation and programming is essential. Experience of soft matter physics (or related subjects) as well as knowledge of advanced Monte Carlo simulation techniques would be advantageous. Candidates must be highly motivated and have a strong record of innovative research consistent with the stage of their career.

Both the School and the University is committed to providing a supportive and inclusive working environment. We welcome applicants from all backgrounds and communities, especially from women and other groups currently under-represented in research posts.

See https://www.jobs.ac.uk/job/BLX982/research-associate-in-theoretical-physics for application details .

For more information contact Prof. Nigel Wilding: nigel.wilding@bristol.ac.uk<mailto:nigel.wilding@bristol.ac.uk>
