Desde el 9 al 25 de abril de 2022 recibiremos la visita del Profesor
Mitja Mastnak de la Universidad St. Mary's, Halifax, Canadá.

Durante su estadía, el profesor Mastnak dictará un mini-curso de
4 clases sobre

Los horarios propuestos son:

Lunes 11 y lunes 18
de 15:30 a 17:30

*Simultaneous Triangularization*

This will be a series of four lectures based on
"Simultaneous Triangularization" by Radjavi and Rosenthal.

The lectures will be mostly self-contained and only some familiarity with
linear algebra is presumed.   For the sake of simplicity we will mostly
restrict ourselves to the field of complex numbers.  Below is a rough
breakdown of topics over the lectures; this order might change depending on
the interest.

The first lecture will be roughly based on Chapter 1 and will mostly
feature subalgebras of n-by-n matrices over complex numbers.  We will,
among other things, discuss an elementary proof of Burnside's theorem
(for subalgebras of matrices over an algebraically closed field) and
briefly mention what happens for more general fields.

The second lecture will focus on groups and semigroups of matrices and will
feature a selection of results from Chapters 2-4 as well as mention some
other relevant results.

The third lecture will focus on semigroups of non-negative-entries matrices
and the Perron-Frobenius Theorem and will be mostly based on Chapter 5.

In the fourth lecture we will briefly discuss some infinite dimensional
versions of the results from previous lectures.
