Junior Research Chairs LabEx ENS ICFP Department of Physics, ENS (Ecole
normale supérieure), Paris

Closing date: October 31, 2018 Expected interview dates: December 5-6-7,
2018
The Department of Physics at ENS Paris invites applications for three
JRC (Junior Research Chairs) at postdoctoral level. Appointments will be
for two years with a possible one year extension. The Department aims at
recruiting outstanding candidates with international experience.
Research activities can be experimental and/or theoretical.
This year, the Department aims at hiring a Junior Research Chair in
Statistical Physics who will actively work with the group of G. Biroli
(research topic: glassy, activated and complex dynamics: from physics to
machine learning).
For the two other positions, the program actively encourages
experimental projects through a reserved budget. Research themes should
correspond to one of the following ones:
- Quantum physics: from atoms to condensed matter
- Biophysics: from the cell to the organism
- Non-linear physics: from the laboratory to the cosmos
- Statistical and theoretical physics
Some participation in teaching within ENS-ICFP (International Centre for
Fundamental Physics and its Interfaces) Master program is part of the
duties http://www.phys.ens.fr/spip.php?rubrique284&;;lang=en [2]
In addition to an internationally competitive salary, ENS-ICFP provides
an attractive travel allowance and research funds (150,000 euros for
experimentalists). The successful candidates are fully integrated into
the Department of Physics and its constituent research laboratories. For
more detailed information regarding the research undertaken at the
Department of Physics, please visit our website
http://www.phys.ens.fr/spip.php?rubrique258&;lang=en [3]
The positions are funded by the ENS-ICFP grant obtained through the
French National Excellence initiative.
Applications must be exclusively submitted through AcademicJobsOnline
(https://academicjobsonline.org/ajo/jobs/11408 [4]) and should consist
of:
- A cover letter
- A complete CV including a list of publications
- A research project taking into account possible interactions with
research groups/faculty within the Department of Physics at Ecole
normale supérieure (no more than 4 pages of A4).
- Three letters of recommendation from senior scientists, to be uploaded
on AcademicJobsOnline.
Candidates are encouraged to make early contact with faculty to discuss
their research proposal and should refer to these contacts in their
4-page research statement. If help is required to identify appropriate
research groups/faculty, candidates should contact the Manager,
Stéphanie Troufflard, at stephanie.troufflard en phys.ens.fr
Short-listed candidates will be interviewed (videoconferences) in early
December 2018. Only applications received by October 31, 2018 will be
considered. The hiring committee will make offers late in 2018.
Positions will normally start in September 2019, but this is negotiable.

For your information, two additional positions will be made available by
the Philippe Meyer Institute
(https://academicjobsonline.org/ajo/jobs/11450 [5])
